THE SENIOR PHASE

Smart Board

Consolidation

In the Senior Phase (grades 4-7) consolidation is the key word. The many concepts that were introduced in the Foundation Phase are now expanded and consolidated. Learning in the Senior Phase is clearly differentiated into different subject areas and different teachers who are subject specialists are now part of the learning experience. With the help of innovative education technology teachers assist  learners to rapidly expand their knowledge and skills base to give them a head start when they move into the high school.

Curriculum

The CAPS curriculum as prescribed by the Education Department is followed in the Senior Phase and great care is taken to ensure that the prescribed knowledge is mastered. Subject knowledge is frequently assessed and measured against national benchmarks.

Assessment Schedule

Classroom tests (assessment) takes place according to a pre-determined schedule. This assessment schedule is published quaterly on the website and also posted to parents. It is very important that parents take careful note of this particular schedule and that they take steps to ensure that their chidren are prepared when testing time comes around,

Daily Homework

Learners in the Senior Phase are more independent and it is expected that each learner keeps a school diary in which he/she writes down the homework of the day. Dormitory learners have daily supervised study periods when they can do their homework. Parents of day scholars must accept the responsibility of arranging for a similar study period. Do not assume that your child will automatically do his homework. It is expected that homework diaries be signed by the parent on a daily basis
