THE SPIRITUAL DIMENSION
It has frequently been mentioned that education at Sedaven Primary is much more than just the 'head and the hand". It also includes the "heart". It can therfore be expected that certain "spiritual" programmes and activities will also find a place in the day-to-day curriculum. The 'spiritual dimension' of Sedaven Primary School can clearly be seen in the following programmes and activities which are deeply entrenched in the School's tradition.
- At least one hour of Bible-study per day. On Mondays there is a Chapel period where the school chaplain leads the whole school body in a series of Bible studies. During the rest of the week we find one "Bible" period per day where the class teacher guides her class through prescribed Bible curriculum materials
- Dormitory students attend Friday evening and Sabbath services in the Church.
- Dormitory learners, with the help of their dormitory parents, prepare Sabbath School and other witnessing programmes and then visit surrounding Adventist churches where these programmes are presented. This not only blesses those who listen, but also serve to develop public speaking and other leadership skills in the learners themselves.
Annually one will also find the school reaching out to the local community with one or more service projects. In 2013 the school will on Spring Day visit hospitals and businesses in Heidelberg to hand out little cards with encouraging messages.
- Finally, at least once per year one will find a special "baptism programme" where learners who have decided to accept the Lord as their personal Saviour and Friend, and who have consequently decided to join the Seventh-day-Adventist Church, will be baptised. This is a joyous occasion and parents, staff and fellow learners congratulate young believers on their decision.
